Sweet Potato Biscuits are a delight to make and even more delightful to eat.  This Sweet Potato Recipe for biscuits is truly the type of potato recipe that will be handed down from mother to daughter and generation to generation.

The baked sweet potato will be combined with brown sugar, buttermilk, and much more.  This is an easy, simple, and quick potato recipe that can be considered a “make ahead” potato recipe.

How To Make Sweet Potato Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mashed sweet potatoes
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. Combine the sifted flour, baking powder and salt, and sift together into mixing bow.
  2. Combine the mashed sweet potatoes with the brown sugar and butter and beat until well blended.
  3. With your fingertips, check and crush any lumps.
  4. Dissolve baking soda in the buttermilk.
  5. Add the buttermilk to the sweet potato mixture.
  6. Work in the flour.
  7. Knead a few times to form a smooth dough, but do not over mix.
  8. Turn out onto floured board and pat out to thickness desired.
  9. Cut into rounds with biscuit cutter and place on ungreased baking sheet.
  10. Bake at 425F for approximately 15 minutes

Hint:  DO NOT twist biscuit cutter, use up & down movement.  Twisting the cutter toughens biscuits.

I would make more sweet potato recipes but surprisingly, here in KS it is tougher to get them if you aren’t a restaurant owner. Stores don’t carry too much of them, at least not in our neighborhood.

@ Delaney That is suprising. I’m not sure that I have ever lived anywhere that sweet potatoes were in short supply.

I don’t know if you ever had sweet potato biscuits but they sure are good. I’m working on posting a few more recipes for them. Just about everybody has a favorite way of making their sweet potato biscuits recipe.

Believe it or not there are actually people who make sweet potato dog biscuits. I guess every dog really does have its day. Hmmm not sure about the biscuits for cats. Especially fat o’l cats!!!

Of course if you can’t find sweet potatoes are the local grocery store you could always try to order up some sweet potato flour online and go from there. Just a suggestion.
