How To Make Slow Cooker BBQ | Crock Pot BBQ
Ingredients
- One Boston Butt, 4-7 pounds. Better known as Pork Butt. Boston Butt is the full and proper name. It is cut from the shoulder.
- One large onion, Sliced thin
- Cumin
- Sweet and Hot Paprika
- Garlic Powder
- Kosher Salt (Not table salt)
- Coarse Ground Pepper
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- liquid smoke
Directions
- Take the cumin, paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, and ground pepper and rub it into the Boston Butt. There really are no set amounts to use. Your goal is to coat the meat as well as you can. You really want to put some effort into rubbing it on as good as you can.
- Place the sliced onion on the bottom of the slow cooker | crock pot.
- Place the Pork Butt on top of the onions
- Pour the 1/4 cup of water into the crock pot. Do Not use more than 1/4 cup.
- Now pour the red wine vinegar over the Pork Butt
- Add a couple dashes of liquid smoke
- Cook on high for 1 hour
- Then cook on low for 9 hours
- When finished cooking remove the Boston Butt from the crock and drain all of the juices
- Let the meat cool for about 15 minutes
- Now shred the meat and put it back in the slow cooker
- Add a little BBQ Sauce to the shredded meat. Just use enough for some flavoring. Don’t drowned it.
- Stir and cook on high for another 20 minutes.

I just love all your crockpot recipes! I followed your link over from TT’s Cool Site Blog. I was wondering about using this recipe with beef instead of pork. Do you think it would cook about the same and taste okay? I’m going to try and made the BBQ sauce too as I don’t like that they add high fructose corn syrup to most store brands now. Much better to make it from scratch.
