I was checking out the Havana Times website and what did I find? A post that talked about the potato harvest, complete with some really good pictures.
Cuban foods are often thought of as spicy and exotic. To some extent that may be true. But a staple Cuban food is potatoes. Cuban food is found in the quaint restaurants of Havana and surrounding villages. In the United States, the food of Cuba can be found in Miami.
Although Cuba doesn’t grow as many potatoes as Idaho or Ireland, they are proud about the potatoes they grow. Cuba and food go together. They have a unique menu of items that are enjoyed the world over.
The best Cuban food is something you will always want more of. The food in Cuba is something to explore and enjoy.
Wow. I had no idea they ate potatoes at all in Cuba – for some reason I thought it was all corn and beans, like in Mexico.

Same with me no ideas that Cuba Potato is staple food . Again in most of the North American Hemisphere Meat , Potato , Corn dominates the food market since ages long .
Still its a surprise even being a little in the south , potatoes are favored even in Cuba .
Who knew? I’m also surprised to hear this.
I guess smashed potatoes should be a favourite with the people of Cuba.
That’s what I love about blogging, you learn something new every day. I would never had imagined that potatoes was a staple part of the Cuban diet. Apart from mashed, fried and and a few boiled recipes I’d be interested to see what other things can be done with potatoes, and to think you have a whole site devoted to the subject
