I don’t know about you, but when I think of Slow Cooker Recipes or Cooking in a Crock Pot  I do not normally think of a salad.  But today we are going to break the mold and cook a steak salad with a Thai twist.

The important thing to remember about crock pot cooking recipes is that they are normally very easy and quick to put together.  This Thai Steak Salad Recipe does not deviate away from that norm.

Crock Pot Beef Recipes when made in conjunction with a salad can be an excellent side dish recipe or you can use it as one of your main course dinner recipes.

How To Make Slow Cooker Recipes | Crock Pot Steak Salad

Ingredients For The Steak

  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 pound of boneless beef chuck steak, 3/4 inch thick

Ingredients For The Dressing

  • 1/4 cup of Hoisin Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of minced fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of ketchup or tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons of lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot chili sauce or Sriracha

Ingredients For The Salad

  • 1/2 head Savoy cabbage, shredded
  • Savoy cabbage has a round, compact head with crinkled and curled leaves.
  • 1 bag (10 ounces) of romaine lettuce with carrots and red cabbage
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts
  • 3/4 cup chopped mango
  • Some fresh lime wedges

Cooking Directions

  1. We are first going to work on the steak.  Make sure that the Crock Pot is coated with a non-stick spray.
  2. Get yourself a small size mixing bowl and it put the soy sauce, honey, and the garlic.  Mix these ingredients together well.
  3. Pour the ingredients from the mixing bowl into the slow cooker.
  4. Now put the steak in the slow cooker.  Make sure that the steak gets coated all over and really well with the mixture that you put in from the mixing bowl.
  5. Set the Crock Pot to high.  You will be letting the steak cook for about 3 hours or until the meat is tender.
  6. After 3 hours of cooking remove the steak and place it on a cutting board.  You will need to slice the steak into thin 1/4 inch strips.  After you are finished cutting the steak, cover it and put it in the fridge.
  7. We are now going to make the salad dressing.  You are going to blend the Hoisin Sauce and the creamy peanut butter together until it is smooth.
  8. Now add the water, ginger, ketchup, lime juice, sugar, garlic, and chili sauce (that is the rest of the ingredients for the dressing) and mix until everything is well blended together.
  9. Now let’s put it all together….Ready???
  10. Toss the cabbage and romaine salad mixture together.  Add the dressing that you just made and mix thoroughly.
  11. On top of the salad place the sliced beef.
  12. Now top the whole Thai Steak Salad off with a sprinkling of cilantro, peanuts and mango.  Place some lime wedges on top.

When you think about, most people don’t really think of the simple salad as having a “recipe”.  They will just throw together some lettuce with tomatoes and maybe a few cucumbers and carrots and call it a day.

With this Thai salad you can go exotic on your dinner guests.  Not everybody appreciates Thai food recipes, but I think that most people when they sit down to a good old fashion home cooked meal that you made from scratch will appreciate this unique and traditional Thai salad recipe.

I live in a small town about 60 miles outside of Las Vegas, NV.  We don’t have any Thai restaurants in our town.  There is no such thing as going out to eat and having Thai meals.  In order for me to cook a specialty dish I would need a Thai cookbook, a slow cooker, and a spirit of culinary adventure.

Of course when most people think of food from the orient they almost always think of chicken recipes first.  It is only after chicken do they turn their attention to beef.

When I’m cooking food I like to try new things.  I’m also willing to cook in a slow cooker or crock pot.  If new recipes call for new ingredients then I am open to going out to the supermarket and buying them.

Not everybody is as opened minded about cooking.  Do you think the chefs on the Food Network are going to go on television and show you how to cook in a slow cooker?  Please, give me a break.

I don’t think there is a chance in the world that you are ever going to see these people cook in a crock pot:

  • Sandra Lee in Semi-Homemade Cooking
  • Paula Deen in Paula’s Home Cooking
  • Bobby Flay in Throwdown with Bobby Flay
  • Ina Garten in Barefoot Contessa
  • Giada De Laurentiis in Everyday Italian
  • Rachael Ray in 30 Minute Meals

You also are never going to see Guy Fieri show a food establishment on his show, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, that uses a slow cooker or crock pot.  Get real!

And what do you think the chances are that Gordon Ramsay from Hell’s Kitchen will ever have a slow cooker on his TV show?

This cooking site is all about easy recipes, quick recipes, and healthy recipes.  It is why it is growing so fast.  People send in recipes by the boat load.  I can’t try them all…there are just too many of them.  I use your feedback to let me know which are good and which are not so good.

You have to remember that we are cooking authentic food and you are getting the recipes for free.  So we need to help each other out.

So I wish you good luck in your kitchen with your slow cooker – crock pot cooking up the steak salad, and remember…

We are all in this together!!!
