People like to make a Hash Brown Casserole because it is a easy recipe to put together. After all, you really don’t have to worry about peeling or slicing potatoes. A good hash brown casserole recipe will have people not even thinking that they are eating hash browns.
Hash brown casserole recipes have been around as long as potatoes and fire. I think they might have been the first casserole. I’m going to have to check my facts on that. But I could just see a bunch of cavemen and cavewomen sitting around the camp fire toasting up hash browns and sprinkling dinosaur cheese on top for taste.
How To Make The Hash Brown Casserole Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups frozen hash brown potatoes, thawed
- 5 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 cup finely chopped cooked ham
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Swiss Cheese
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell peppers
- 1/4 cup diced red bell peppers
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425F
- Mix the eggs, milk, and salt together in a medium bowl.
- Blot the potatoes between sheets of paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Press the potatoes into the bottom and up the sides of an ungreased 9 inch pan.
- Drizzle with the melted butter.
- Bake the crust for 25 minutes, or until lightly browned.
- Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
- Lower the oven to 375F
- Spread the ham over the bottom of the crust.
- Top with cheese, onions, and green and red bell peppers.
- Pour the egg and milk mixture over all.
- Bake the casserole for 36-40 minutes, or until set.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
This is actually a pretty good hash brown potato casserole. I think you are going to enjoy it. It is pretty easy to prepare and fast to make. It will go well with lunch or dinner and the kids will certainly like it. As a matter of fact you can actually prepare this dish and make it breakfast hash brown casserole. As an added bonus this Hash Brown Casserole will make great leftovers.
