Italian meatballs and pasta might be Italian food but it is also as American as apple pie.  Have you ever met a kid that doesn’t like Italian meatballs and spaghetti?  I never have.  And the funny thing is that we love this dish after we leave childhood and eat it for the rest of our lives.  It really says something about a food when it retains it’s appeal to us for such a long period of time.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons salad oil
  • 2- 1 pound cans of tomatoes, cut up
  • 2- 6 ounce cans tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano, crushed
  • 1 bay leaf

  • Hot cooked spaghetti

How To Make Italian Meatballs and Spaghetti Recipe

  1. Cook onion and garlic in hot oil tell tender but not brown.
  2. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, salt, pepper, oregano and bay leaf.
  3. Simmer uncovered 30 minutes; remove bay leaf.
  4. Add Italian Meatballs and continue cooking loosely covered about 30 minutes longer.
  5. Serve over hot spaghetti.
  6. Top with grated Parmesan cheese
  7. Serves 6
