But I have strayed from the main subject, which in case you have forgotten is all about Potato Salad…German Potato Salad to be more exact.

The point I’m trying to make is that German Cooking does not have to be your specialty in order to enjoy some German Dishes. German Potato Salad is a good way to experience the cuisine without going to cooking school.

This German Potato Salad Recipe really is an Easy Recipe. So the next time somebody asks if you have a good recipe for a salad, you should say, “Yes I do….I have a great Recipe For German Potato Salad.”

“There seems to be no dogma concerning the origins of potato salad, but Germany is a good place to begin. As a country with lots of potatoes and lots of recipes for potatoes, Germany almost certainly was among the first to look at cooked small new potatoes or cut chunks of larger spuds and imagine them blanketed with dressing. The dressing they came up with was a classic. Kin to the heated dressing used to wilt spinach salad, this one thrilled German taste buds, raised as they were on sauerkraut and sauerbraten with vinegar bite. Some versions featured a little coarse mustard, others cut the sour with a little sugar, and most added bacon and even its flavorful drippings. By the time the notion of potato salad reached France, vinegar wasn’t quite good enough. The French demanded full-scale vinaigrette, and it was no sweat to satisfy their demands. Whenever you see something called “French potato salad,” it’s a safe bet you’re in for potatoes (and probably other vegetables, too) in a light vinaigrette, with Dijon mustard and sweet tarragon.

When potato salad caught on in the United States, in the second half of the 19th century, it was probably by way of German immigrants. To this day, most people who know how to cook, or at least know how to eat, understand that “German potato salad” will be served warm, will feature no mayonnaise, and will be pleasantly tart with vinegar. The American idea of making potato salad with mayonnaise has no recorded history – but then again, neither does the idea of mayonnaise itself. Clearly a sauce created in France using egg yolks, oil and either lemon juice or vinegar, little is clear after that. Virtually every French bible of cuisine explains the name differently, ranging from a link to “Magon,” the Carthaginian general who helped his brother Hannibal battle the Romans,” to a possible misspelling of “Bayonnaise,” hailing from the town of Bayonne in France – and later, less romantically, New Jersey.

However it got the name, mayonnaise became the favored dressing for American potato salad for more than a century. Its sweet, creamy mouthfeel served up just the right delight when wrapped around solid, dependable American potatoes.”
—”A world of potato salads; Labor Day tradition gets global makeover,” John DeMers, The Houston Chronicle, August 29, 2001 (Food: p. 1)

“Despite its popularity in this country, potato salad is not an all-American creation. Potato salad is said to be of Teutonic origin, prepared when boiled potatoes were tossed with oil, vinegar and seasonings, a dish known now as German potato salad. The French, Norwegians, Swedes, Russians and Italians all have their own versions. Germans make a marvelous warm potato salad to which they add tiny bits of fresh tomato and red and green bell peppers, then toss the whole concoction with a warm bacon and onion dressing. The Greeks also prefer warm potato salad, with garlic, olive oil and lemon. Italian potato salad is apt to have ample amounts of fresh parsley, often chunks of salami and is dressed with an olive oil and vinegar dressing. American potato salad is heavier and heartier than European versions. Some people like lots of additions such as onion, sweet pickles, celery, hard-cooked eggs, pimento, chives, olives and parsley.”

If there is a better comfort food than beef stew I don’t know about it. When you make this Easy Beef Stew recipe in your crock pot, you are not just making another boring slow cooker recipe that you found online. No, you will be making an Easy Beef Stew that is a homemade food made from an original homemade recipe.

We are going to make this Easy Beef Stew from scratch. Because it is an old fashion beef stew recipe you can bet your bottom dollar that it is a simple, easy, quick, and delicious recipe.

This Easy Crock Pot Beef Stew will taste great when you serve it for dinner and it will taste great when you serve it as a leftover dish. Leftovers always taste great!!!

How To Make Easy Beef Stew

Ingredients

2 pounds of beef stew meat

2 bay leaves

1 clove of garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup all purpose flour

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (2 teaspoons if you like)

3 cups of beef broth

1/2 onion chopped

3 red potatoes, scrubbed and diced (no need to peel)

4 carrots chopped

7 ounces of diced tomatoes

This is a shake and cook recipe. So you are going to need a large food storage bag to continue!!

Directions

Get your large food storage back out. Put in the salt, pepper, and flour

Add the beef and do the beef stew shake with the bag. Really go at it until the beef is entirely coated. I told you this was an old fashion recipe. Remember the commercial?

Now place the contents of the bag in the crock pot (make sure to add all of the remaining flour that is in the bag)

Now it is time to add the diced potatoes, chopped carrots, beef broth, onion, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaves and garlic. Make sure to stir as you add the ingredients. Don’t add the tomatoes yet!!!

You can cook the beef stew two way in your slow cooker. 10-12 hours on low….Or 4-6 hours on high. I prefer the 10-12 hours on low.

One hour before your homemade, made from scratch, easy beef stew is finished cooking, stir in the tomatoes.

This Easy Beef Stew that you have made in your crock pot or slow cooker is a great make ahead recipe because it really does make tasty leftovers.

Crock Pot Meatloaf is the most requested recipe for a slow cooker. A quick simple meatloaf that is sure to satisfy the family and especially the kids. The Crock Pot Meatloaf is one quick dinner recipe that we half-jokingly call quick gourmet food.

When cooking meals for a family most people search for quick, simple, easy, and fast recipes for meat loaf. Cooking dinner should not be a chore. Crock Pot Meatloaf is an easy kitchen way of cooking dinner.

Cooking meatloaf is one of the first meals most people learn when out on their own. I learned how to cook meals when I was in college. Cooking dinner was essential if I wanted to eat. Mom wasn’t around to cook for me. I was in shock! Yep, cooking sure seemed easier when I was at home. But in college I needed a meal quick. And Crock Pot Meatloaf was a simple easy recipe.

How To Make Crock Pot Meatloaf

If you have any comments or suggestions on the Crock Pot Meatloaf recipe please feel free to send them to us.

Is it any wonder that meat loaf is America’s favorite ground beef recipe? Well it is next to the king of the hill, “The Hamburger”. A good meat loaf recipe is something that just can’t be beat. Not only is it a quick simple dish to make, but it is also a inexpensive, or cheap if you will, main course.

The best meat loaf I remember eating was the one my wife made the year that we got married. I’ll tell you I married one quick gourmet. And without a doubt she knew how to make meat loaf.

I think I remember this particular meatloaf because she made it in a slow cooker or crock pot right after she cooked the creamy potato soup. When it came to cooking meals on a budget, she was the queen. Really a “World Champion”.

Of course cooking meatloaf for dinner doesn’t seem like that big of a deal. But if you don’t have money to go out to eat and want some of the side dishes that go along with a loaf recipe then all of a sudden the nights menu starts looking mighty good.

Anyway, we had potato soup, mashed potatoes, and sweet potato biscuits. All for under $6.00. This was a few years ago but still quite a bargain and filling.

While my wife was cooking dinner I was watching TV. It sounds kind of like a sitcom! But when it was time to mash the potatoes I was in the game. I like to use a potato ricer for mashed potatoes. Much easier than those hand mashers and you don’t get the lumps. Hint: I love to put garlic in my mashed potatoes!!

In my opinion the best meatloaf recipe is a quick, simple, and basic loaf recipe. It makes for a great dinner, easy lunch, super leftovers, and it tastes good hot or cold.

We have now been married for a while and my wife still cooks meatloaf. And my wife’s meatloaf recipe is still delicious. I will never complain. I think it makes it a easy kitchen day for her when she cooks in the crock pot or slow cooker. And if she is cooking at home it should be easy.

A few last thoughts about the easy cooking meat loaf recipe. Like I said you can make it ahead, eat it as leftovers, and it truly is one of the easy simple recipes.

If you look comfort food up in the dictionary you will see a big picture of a meatloaf. I’m not kidding. Any homemade recipe that you can make from scratch and cook it in a crock pot should have a picture in the dictionary under comfort food.

My wife’s dinner menu has expanded quite a bit since the early days of our marriage. She went from knowing “How To Make Meatloaf” to becoming one quick gourmet. She can make just about anything…And she does. Usually in a crock pot or slow cooker.

Now I will be the first to admit that you don’t have to attend cooking school in order to be a good cook. Who really cooks those recipes that you see the top chefs making on TV or in those glossy magazine?

Cooking recipes should be able to be made by the average person. The recipe shouldn’t be so difficult that it requires a special education to prepare. Cooking potatoes or cooking meat is basic. You make good, healthy, nutritious meals for yourself and your family with simple ingredients.

Of course easy cooking in the microwave is another alternative. If you are in a hurry and need a quick meal then the microwave is the way to go. It is not my first choice but I do use it on occasion. Sometimes I will bake a potato in the microwave simply because it is quick.

Get your meatloaf pan out and start cooking the slow cooker | crock pot meatloaf recipe.

The Green Pepper Casserole with the sliced Russet potatoes will be the one of the best easy side dish recipes that you will ever have the enjoyment to cook. You can use it as a “make ahead” recipe, and because you are going to make it from scratch this homemade food is sure to please. And if all that was not enough…the leftovers are really fast cooking and taste great. Are you ready to make a delicious comfort food?

I am a sucker for a good Creamy Potato Salad Recipe. I will pass up every side dish that is placed out on the dinner table in order to get to the creamy potato salad.

I think my obsession started with my mother’s delicious Creamy Potato Salad Recipe. I just loved it. I would fill myself up with the creamy potato salad and leave all the other food. Of course this didn’t make my mother too happy, but secretly I think she was proud of herself for knowing how to make potato salad that was simply scrumptious.

This recipe is not my mom’s original creamy potato salad recipe. It is close to it but not exactly the same. This new potato salad recipe contains mayonnaise and bacon like my mom’s creamy potato salad, but it uses red potatoes where my mother used Russets.

Despite this creamy potato salad recipe not being an exact duplicate of my mother’s recipe, it is still a quick, easy, and one of the best creamy potato salad recipes I have ever tasted.

How To Make The Best Easy Creamy Potato Salad Recipe

Ingredients

8 Red Potatoes

6 Hard Boiled Eggs, Chopped

1 Pound Of Bacon

1 White Onion Chopped

2 Cups Of Mayonnaise

1 Cup Of Sour Cream

3 Tablespoons Of Milk

2 Large Tomatoes Chopped

2 Cups Cheddar Cheese, Shredded

Directions

Wash and scrub the potatoes

Cut the potatoes into approximately 1 inch cubes

Boil the potatoes. Don’t over cook you are not going to make mashed potatoes

After the potatoes are cooked, set them aside and let them cool.

As the potatoes are cooling, cook the chopped onion and bacon together. When the bacon is crispy, drain the drippings and reserve them.

Now combine the milk, bacon drippings, sour cream, and mayonnaise in a bowl and mix together.

In a large bowl mix together the eggs, the onion-bacon mixture, and the cooked potatoes.

Combine the ingredients of the small bowl with the bowl containing the potatoes and toss.

Place in the fridge for 2-3 hours or until chilled. Sprinkle the cheese and tomatoes on top before serving.

This creamy potato salad recipe makes a fantastic salad cup and is just about the best “make ahead” recipe you will ever make.

The two most frequent questions we get when posting a new recipe: Is this recipe a low fat salad recipe, and, Is there a way to cook this creamy potato salad recipe and make it a vegan or vegetarian recipe.

In order to make this creamy potato salad recipe a low fat salad recipe and also a vegan or vegetarian friendly recipe you would need to use the following substitutions: Turkey Bacon or Veggie Bacon, Low Fat Yogurt instead of Mayonnaise, Low Fat Sour Cream or Tofu based Sour Cream, Low Fat Milk or Soy Milk.

So you see you can cook a low fat salad recipe that is also a vegetarian or vegan friendly recipe.

This creamy potato salad is a great summertime recipe. It is a simple potato salad to make and it will go well as a picnic recipe or as a dish for leftovers. You know leftovers are what make this creamy potato salad recipe such a good “make ahead” side dish recipe.
