Whether you have invited friends over for dinner and have found out they are vegetarian, or perhaps you have recently decided to make a change to vegetarianism yourself, it can be hard to think of creative ways to put together tasty, nutritious and filling meals. Meat is not the key element you might think it is! Healthy vegetarian cooking is not as hard as it looks! Here are 5 ingredients you can plan a meal around that will leave you or your vegetarian guests feeling more than satisfied.

1. Quinoa

Pronounced “Keen-waa”, this grain is often described as a super food, and it is, quite simply, genius. It’s a complete protein all on it’s own, and is a great filling ingredient to use in a delicious vegetable soup. You could also make a nutritious and tasty salad based around it – similar to the way you would use couscous or risoni. Boil it with vegetable stock or tomatoes rather than water alone to give it added flavor. You can also find quinoa flakes in some supermarkets or health food stores that make a nutritious alternative to porridge oats in the morning.

2. Falafel

You can’t go wrong with this Middle Eastern, delicious and spicy use of the chickpea. It is widely available now pre-cooked and microwaveable, but it is just as easy to buy the falafel mix yourself and prepare at home – usually you just have to mix with water and let stand for anywhere between 20mins to 2 hours. Create a fun dinner atmosphere by allowing everyone to create his or her own delicious pita. Store the rest of the falafel in your Westinghouse Fridge and you can have a delicious meal for lunch at work the next day!

3. Tofu

This can be quite a terrifying food to work with if you’ve never cooked it before, but tofu really can taste fabulous! Make sure first off that you have bought the right tofu consistency for the meal you want to prepare – silky tofu will just turn to mush in a stir-fry and is best used in soups, whereas firmer tofu would be what you are after when using the wok. You can often find pre-marinated tofu in the vegetarian section at the supermarket, which is very handy as getting the flavor into tofu is probably the biggest challenge.

4. Black Beans

A tasty and nice alternative to your standard baked beans, you can flavor these with cumin and coriander and use them to create a gourmet version of vegetarian nachos. Corn chips, black beans, capsicum, spring onions, salsa, guacamole and sour cream…an easy and fun dinner dish! You could get away with making one massive plate of this, which means less mess to clean up and fewer dishes in your Bosch Dishwasher afterwards!

5. Scout out your Local Vegetarian Restaurants

Indian, Thai and Italian restaurants will often be your best bet if you are still struggling for inspiration. Even if you aren’t vegetarian yourself, you will be impressed with how tasty non-meat dishes can actually be.

Why would anybody be interested in putting together Meatless Meals? Two reasons: They are healthy and they tasted good. Do you remember when Catholics didn’t eat meat on Fridays? Well it seems they were on to something. As more people become vegan and vegetarians, meatless recipes will start becoming more and more popular.

I consider any food dish that contains chiles a type of Mexican food. I’m sure plenty of people would disagree with me but that is how I think about it. So, this cheese and tomato casserole dish is kind of a Mexican dish to me.

How To Make Two Cheese & Tomato Casserole

Ingredients

4 large eggs, separated

2/3 cup undiluted evaporated milk

1 tablespoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese

2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

2 cans (4 oz each) diced green chiles or 2 poblano chiles, roasted, peeled, and diced

1 can ( 14.5 oz) stewed tomatoes with their juice, or 2 vine ripe tomatoes, peeled and diced

Cooking Directions

Preheat oven to 325F

Butter a deep 3 quart casserole or souffle dish

Beat the egg yolks in a large bowl with the milk and add the flour, salt, and pepper.

Beat the egg whites in a medium bowl until stiff and fold into the egg yolk mixture.

In the buttered casserole, mix the cheeses, green chiles, and tomatoes with their juice. Pour the egg mixture over and stir with a fork until just mixed.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, until set and lightly browned.

This vegetarian meatless recipe really does taste good. It is easy and fast to prepare. I don’t think you will be disappointed. It makes great leftovers and can be served for lunch or dinner.

Meatless dishes are becoming more the norm and Meatless Meals are becoming more the rule than the exception.

How To Make Crock Pot Potato Soup

Ingredients

1/2 lb of thick sliced bacon

2 medium onions, chopped

10 medium (not large) potatoes, cut into 1 inch cubes

4 cups of chicken stock

1 pint of half and half

Salt & Pepper for taste

3-4 sprigs of thyme

2 bay leaves

Directions

Peel the potatoes and chop into one inch cubes

Place potato cubes into a large bowl of water and quickly add a few squirts of lemon juice to the water. This will prevent the potatoes from turning brown.

Cook the bacon until crisp. Then dice up the bacon.

Remove the bacon from the pan but leave the fat in the pan.

Add the chopped onions to the bacon fat in the pan and heat the onions until they become translucent.

Take all of the ingredients except for the half and half and bacon and put in the Crock Pot.

Cook on low for 10-12 hours

After 10-12 hours add the half and half to the mixture and stir it in real good. There is no need (don’t do it) to cook the half and half.

At this point decide if you would like the potatoes in cube form in your soup or you would like creamy potatoes in your soup. If you would like creamy potatoes get out the masher and go to work.

Ladle the soup out into soup cups and sprinkle the cooked bacon bits on top.

Have a slow cooker recipe you would like to share? We welcome your comments and suggestions on Crock Pot Potato Soup or any other potatoe recipies. We are always looking for a good red potato soup recipe.

Did you know that soup recipes are the number one “searched” food recipe online? And in the potato recipes category potato soup is the top request. Potato soups of all types: Chunky potato soup, creamy potato soup, crock pot potato soup, and the list goes on and on.

The reason potato soup recipes are so popular is because they are simple, fast, easy and quick soup recipes to make and they taste good. Potato soup is a healthy and hardy soup. This site is filled with good soup recipes, many different potato soup recipes.

The simple yet tasty potato soup is a favorite of young and old. It is the best soup for my money. I have lived in New York and Colorado so I have always been on the lookout for winter soup recipes that you could make in a slow cooker and eat all during the day. Maybe enjoy a large soup cup after you shovel the snow off the driveway!

Cream of potato soup is my favorite. It is an easy potato soup recipe that everybody seems to enjoy. The recipe above is an easy crock pot recipe. Anybody can make it. Slow cookers or crockpot recipes are all set and forget recipes.

At one time in my life, when I was much younger, I was toying around with the idea of becoming a vegetarian. Maybe even a vegan. For those of you that don’t know the difference between a Vegetarian and a Vegan I will give a short explanation.

Vegetarian: Somebody who does not eat red meat at all. Some vegetarians will eat chicken and fish. Vegetarians have no problem drinking milk, eating sour cream, or digesting any other food that comes from animals. They just shy away from eating the animal.

Vegans: Vegans don’t eat any meat. They don’t eat chicken or fish. If it breathes they don’t eat it. They also don’t eat any food items that come from animals. No sour cream, no butter, and no milk. Vegans substitute animal food items with other more natural choices.

My experiment into becoming a vegetarian did not last long. I love hamburgers and steaks. I also like sour cream better than tofu! But once I learned how to make a baked potato I fell in love with all types of potato recipes.

But have no fear my friends–vegetarians can eat this Slow Cooker | Crock Pot Potato Soup without sacrificing their vegetarian membership card. The occasional recipe will call for bacon (yum) but normally it can be left out of the recipe without much sacrifice.

Vegetarian crock pot recipes are just as good as “normal” crock pot recipes. You can cook vegetarian to you hearts content. We are going to call this potato soup recipe one of the quick and easy vegetarian recipes. Just remember to not add the bacon.

This crock pot potato soup can be made for vegans also. If you want vegan soup and you want it to be vegan easy, then you are going to have to sub the normal ingredients for ones that you approve of.

I like fast cooking. How about you. Fast cooking to me means that you are able to assemble all of the ingredients quickly, toss them in a pot, and forget about it. That is what crock pot or slow cooker cooking is all about. You cook fast. It is a quick kitchen dream come true.

In today’s hectic world with everybody being so busy, having the skills of a quick gourmet is priceless. Nobody wants to work in the kitchen all day. If you want to do that you should go to a cooking school. Most people I know, me included, want what we are cooking quick to be a foolproof crock pot meal. Or at least a good side dish recipe.

Today a quick busy family deserves quick healthy meals and this cream potato soup delivers. With all the scary news out there about tainted food and food that is contaminated it is good to know that you can easily make homemade food. This homemade soup is a recipe is more or less made from scratch so you don’t have to worry about getting sick from it and it is nutritious.

The really great thing about cooking with a crock pot or slow cooker is that just about everything you cook is a make ahead recipe. The cooker will keep it warm as you nibble throughout the day. And don’t talk to me about leftovers. The batches you make are large so there are always leftovers. Just heat up and you have a snack or the next days lunch.

To cook in a crock pot really is fast, cheap, and easy. A crock pot dinner will make everybody seem like a celebrity chef!

Let me talk just briefly about the crock pot slow cooker I use. For me the Rival Slow Cooker is the best one on the market. I have used a Rival for as long as I can remember. So I see no need to change at this stage in the game. I’m sticking with the Rival Crock Pot. You can whip up some really great tasting potato bacon soup in a Rival…

I really do enjoy this recipe of crock pot potato soup. It is the type of comfort food that just seems to hit the spot. I hope you enjoy this potato recipe.

There is food for eating and then there is Food For Comfort. In the middle of a long winter, when the trees are bare and the air is frosty, it is Food For Comfort that satisfies. Potato Stew is the ultimate food for comfort. Not only is Potato Stew a Comfort Food, but it has long been known to also be a go-to side dish for one of the quick, simple, and easy college recipes that all incoming freshman learn to cook.

The recipe for stew, which by the way is really a vegetable potato stew, is a true comfort food recipe. Why do I say that? Because a true comfort food recipe has to be simple and easy to make. It is part of the allure of a comfort food. That is why it is so highly sought after when college students are looking for easy college recipes. Recipes for college students not only have to be easy but also have to be good. It should remind them of home and the food for comfort their moms used to make them. If there were such a thing as a Comfort Food Company they would clean up on campus.

How To Make Food For Comfort Potato Stew

1 celery stalk, diced

The white part of one leek, julienned

1 cup dry white wine

Now cook on medium for 1/2 hour (you want the potatoes to become tender)

Adjust cooking time to make sure potatoes are fully cooked

If too much of the liquid evaporates during cooking you can add water or more consomme

Serve the potato stew while it piping hot

You have just made a food for comfort that will be remembered for a long time. This potato stew will still taste great the next day as a left over side dish recipe. Always remember that a comfort food is the most welcoming food that you can serve a friend.

Cooking Potato Stew Tip: Leeks are traditionally used in this potato stew because they are milder than onions, which works very well with the mild potato flavor. However, there is no reason you cannot substitute leeks with onions, green onions or shallots if you prefer.

This Food For Comfort Potato Stew is a Vegan and Vegetarian safe recipe.
